Morning reflections

I'm totally in love with Skinny Laminx's new fabric range. I know the perfect job for her wild flower print. Now to get started and migrate this old couch off our back porch and into our lounge, where it truly belongs.

Crafty Monday

D day for these Parker chairs is December 17th...my Dad's birthday.
I can't wait to have these chairs completed and to hand them over to my Dad. The first night celebrating on them over a long home cooked meal down on the coast with my family will be such a joy.

They've been totally stripped back from the awful lacquered teak they were when I purchased them.
the backs have been re-padded & reupholstered.
the seats re-webbed.
Lastly, the seats are ready for new foam and upholstery.

The momentum is building. I know they've been a while in the making but I'm so pleased with the way they're turning out.
I do love Monday and the feeling of progress. x

Ready for a new life

Another 2 chairs complete. I'm making headway, stealing a little time here and a little time there, making friends with my compressor and becoming more efficient. My skill level is expanding with each job. It's a great feeling building a skill. Now I need to get a move on and open a little online store.

a new look for an old gem

Friends commissioned me to reupholster this armchair for their sitting room. The original chair, with it's terribly 80's fabric, was in desperate need of a make over. It had the lingering qualities of a 'has been' chair from a big time boardroom.

Ta dah..... look at it now. A little love and some handy work have given this gem a completely sleek look (much more in keeping with it's owner). The fabric is from Spoonflower and the geometric design is perfect to complement the handsome timber arm rests. I'm very happy to be sending him home looking all swanky and new.

I hope the C-S's love it as much as I do. x

My Cinderella Chair

I just came across my reupholstered 'Acland chair' over on a couple of delightful tumblr pages dreams and idle pleasures and chair porn. It's quite a compliment to see it there amoungst the gorgeousness.

This chair was found on 'Acland' street, by my friend Tom Tom, on his way to work one morning. He texted me a photo & the location so Z & I scooted down and bundled it into the car. The incredible stench emanating from it was something else.....it made my tummy turn. Springs and wading were popping out in every direction. This abused and abandoned chair needed a lot of love.
It almost didn't make it home.
After stripping it back to basics and reupholstering it in this lovely linen...I'm so pleased it did.

Crafty Monday

We worked on the chairs above for Crafty Monday, last week. The two on the left are mine. The top right is Lisa's and the bottom right belongs to Max, fellow Crafty Lady's.
I'm hoping to get the chair in the bottom left hand corner completed today.

For those of you who remember... the fabric was ordered from Spoonflower. I waited, patiently, for 3 weeks until it arrived. Then I discovered (after stapling straight through the ply) I needed 3mm staples to fit my compressor staple gun so I could attached the fabric to the moulded ply, which fits to the back of the chair....None of my usual hardware stores stocked 3mm staples so I had to order them online.... another week. After what feels like an eternity of stop start proceedings, I'm hoping today is the day for completion!

*** oh ah, I've finished already. Just waiting now for the L.F. to fit it all together tonight. So happy to see this little job completed. We found the chair on the curb in Malvern. The L.F. spent a few hours stripping and sanding it back....and now look at it...all grown up.

My Dickens Foot Stool

This little foot stool was found by the side of the road on 'Dickens' St. I have a habit of naming my pieces after the road they were found on hence.... I introduce to you..... the Dickens Foot Stool. I've recovered it in a Liberty Nautical print I picked up on ebay.

After another day of sorting at Doo's, in preparation for this weekends garage sale, I'm exhausted & seeing crosses. The end is in sight.....
The L.F. & I ordered this above lovely linen fabric from Spoonflower last night. We ordered the upholstery weight for a chair we're currently working on. It's such a fantastic site for fabrics as you can choose which weight fabric you require depending on the project. The prices are really reasonable plus they're all by independent designers. I'll post photos of the resurrected chair (another roadside find) once we've finished.
I'm off to put my feet up. The L.F. is cooking dinner tonight. Yippee.

Crafty Monday

On Crafty Monday's I have a loose arrangement with around 4 local lovelies that from 10am Monday morning, myself and at least one other, can be found tinkering away in my back garden on some random crafty project.
My project of choice for the last few weeks has been stripping and sanding back these great Parker chairs I bought on eBay. They are a birthday present for my father. There are 8 in total but I'm doing them in lots of four, as that way I feel somewhat more productive!
It's such a joyous way to start the week. We all experience a real sense of achievement... and because it's shared achievement it feels multiplied. We also get to have a cup of tea and a laugh together. Thank you Monday's. I really do love you. xx
