A few of my favourite things
Loving these two online magazines today.
The first by Norwegian lass Jeannette Lunde (coincidentally with a name so similar to my favorite Norwegian friend!) of Fryd, 3 BY FRYD
and the second by
What Liberty Ate, with some incredible recipes and an interview with one of my favorite food stylists.
What joy! x

How does your garden grow?
A few lovely links to set you sailing on this moody Monday morning.
Dreaming of this credenza for our living room.
Loving this bottle garden idea for winter.
Salivating at the thought of these.
In awe of the archway by Giles Miller.
Enjoying the recipes over at The Gluten Free Scallywag.
Enjoyed the action-hero comic style of 'Peace is the Way'.... a beautiful message, which made me giggle.
On the to-do list.... a couple of these simple tops.

{this moment}
A topsy turvy Friday ritual (originted by Soule Mama).
Usually it's a single photo capturing a moment from the week. This week..... it's a photo taken sometime back, which I stumbled upon this week. It made me laugh.... such glee.
It's the perfect {this moment} shot.
Happy weekend. Friday, already. No idea how that happen but I'm sure happy it did. xx

Son of Evil Reindeer
Enjoying these two songs at the moment. They've stood the test of time. I keep coming back to them over and over. Son of Evil Reindeer is one of my favorite albums. I never tire of it. Those Scotsmen, with the thick Glaswegian accents, I love them.
My ear for melancholy prevails........although, it ceases to make me melancholic these days.

What makes you vulnerable?
mmm, I'm married to a 'researcher' so this made me laugh. It's also very beautifully researched and so honestly expressed....
Well worth watching (even if you're not married to a researcher).x

How to handle your customer service complaints...... with dignity.
A little bit of compassionate listening really wouldn't have gone astray United. : (
Here's an interview with David Carroll on big corporations, customer service and the individual voice.
PS. While we're talking music clips... musician Clare Bowditch's Offspring TV debut screens tonight on Channel 10 ... Yay, Clare. If you need to do a little catch up TV prior to the big screening here's the link.

Wandering the streets
We spent the weekend in Sydney celebrating a wedding. The wedding was absolutely stunning. A beautiful couple in an incredibly breathtaking setting.
I fell in love with Sydney's East all over again. Autumn definitely is a beautiful time to be perch up above the streets of Surry Hills.
Morning tea at Neilson Park, a Mother's Day stroll around Centenial Park, a visit to Object Gallery to see the Women With Clever Hands exhibition, walking the streets of Paddington and meeting our new nephew for the first time, a lunch date with my cousin here, were amongst some of my favorite things.
There were some smaller but no less enjoyable moments like the chance meeting with a prophet behind the counter at the Salvos store on Crown Street (who gave me some rather sage advice on the Z man), spending a rainy spell bunkered down in the light filled space of Surry Hills library an incredibly beautiful public space, walking the back streets and discovering this, yum cha and of course Chee soon Fitzgerald, so many fabulous places...too many to mention but here's a snippet.
I hope your weekend was a fun exploration of places old and new. Happy belated Mother's Day to all the mums out there too. xox

My week of thankfulness
“(Some people) have a wonderful capacity to appreciate again and again, freshly and naively, the basic goods of life, with awe, pleasure, wonder, and even ecstasy.” — A.H. Maslow
It's not always easy to hold onto that capacity for awe, pleasure & wonder, least of all ecstasy in the same sameness of the everyday .... but I must say, this humble little Gratitude Project helps me. So much goodness, I often find it hard to choose only one. xx

Compassionate listening
Thich Nhat Hanh on Compassionate Listening
Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh says listening can help end the suffering of an individual, put an end to war and change the world for the better.
I came across this clip yesterday over at Oprah's Super Soul Sunday series. I've just finished reading Thich Nhat Hanh's book Touching Peace and compassionate listening is one of the things that really resonated with me........ I can be a little too quick to give my opinion, at times. Here's to more compassionate listening. xx

It's the small things
These photos have been taken over the last 4 days. They are snippets. Snippets of time spent spent wandering alone, of quiet time with family and celebrating, a wedding, with friends.
Some of these photos appear in my Gratitude Project here. It's my little meditation on the small things.
Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.

I hope your weekend was full of small things to make you smile. xx

{this moment}
A somewhat sporadic Friday ritual (originted by Soule Mama).
A single photo capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special moment.
“Every morning was a cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself.”
― Henry David Thoreau, Walden, or Life in the Woods
The older I become, the fonder I am of early mornings..... wonders never cease.
Happy weekend. xx

FOMO....fear of missing out
I stumbled across this FOMO article over at Zen habits yesterday and it really struck a cord. 'Fear of missing out'. It seems to be a syndrome rife in out current culture. Have you noticed, or is it just me?
I know I'm often driven to check my email, phone and Facebook way more than necessary...... for what?....FOMO.... in what? I don't feel any more fulfilled once I have checked, in fact checking seems to breed a compulsion to check again, oh and again.... and just one last time.
Step away from the phone. There really is absolutely nothing going on that is more important than being, well, real.... here & now. That's one big note to self BTW.(Just thought I'd throw another acronym in for fun).
I certainly didn't miss out on this great find yesterday! $5 from the op shop.
It totally transports a dreary autumn outfit into something, dare I say, quite noticeable.
There was absolutely no fear of missing out on this little beauty.
I love it. x

The whispering sad wizard.
I can't help it. I do love the whispering sad wizardry of Father John Misty's music (ex Fleet Foxes drummer & solo singer songwriter) ..... and this interview, Father John Misty treads the line between Fear and Fun..., well, it really made me laugh out loud.
Hhmmm, does that make me a sad listening enchantress......... ?
